End of Year Update

Dear YHS Families,

This past week of weather is a sure indication that summer and the end of school are around the corner.  For students in grades 9 through 11, we would like to share an end-of-year update to help with your planning. For the last week of classes at YHS, we will be using the following special schedule (chart form link here).

--The last full day of BLUE classes will be Monday, June 7.

--The last full day of WHITE classes will be Tuesday, June 8.

--The last day (hopefully ever) of REMOTE classes will be Wednesday, June 9

--On Thursday, June 10, students will attend their Block 2 (Blue and White) in the morning, and Block 3 classes in the afternoon.

--On Friday June 11, students will attend their Block 4 (Blue and White) classes in the morning.  From 12 to 2 pm, we will hold STEP UP DAY, where students will meet their teachers for next year in an abbreviated schedule.

--On Monday June 14, students will attend their Block 5 classes (Blue and White) in the morning.  After morning classes, students will need to turn in all textbooks, school materials, uniforms, and laptops.  We will provide a bus run at 12 pm for students who need a ride home, as there are no afternoon classes.  Fully Remote students should turn in their materials to the main office between 12 and 3 PM.

Students who need additional time to complete assignments may do so on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.   There will be no classes for students on Tuesday, June 15.

Junior Testing – For the past five years, all juniors have participated in the Maine’s mandatory statewide assessment system by taking the SAT exam.   This spring, the Maine Department of Education transitioned to a partnership with the New Meridian for science assessment and the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) for Literacy and Math.    Although juniors still had the opportunity to take the SAT exam in April, juniors will need to participate in the following three tests:

--New Meridian Science – Thursday, May 27 from 9:30 – 1:30 (students will have the opportunity for breaks and lunch)

--NWEA Literacy – Monday, June 7 from 8 to 9:15 AM

--NWEA Math – Tuesday, June 8 from to 10:45 – 12.

Thank you, be well, and have a great weekend.

Respectfully,

Eric Klein, Amy Bongard, and David Creech – YHS Administrative Team
