Dear YHS Families,
Learning is well underway at Yarmouth High School after the first few days of classes. As we all adjust to the Hybrid plan, we would like to provide you with a few updates and adjustments as we plan for the rest of September.
Afternoon Pick-Up - If you are picking up your student from school, we ask that you stay out of the West Elm bus loop between 2 pm and 2:15, as car traffic will interfere with the bus runs. Parents may use the West Elm entrance after 2:15 to pick up students.
Textbooks for Fully Remote Students - For students who are not attending any classes on campus at Yarmouth High School this semester, materials and textbooks may be picked up at the main office starting Monday morning, September 14th at 8 am.
Expanded Parking in the Yellow Zone - For the rest of September, as long as we remain in the Hybrid Model, 10th Grade students will be allowed to park in the student sections using the Portland Road entrance. Please note, however, that should we go to the “All-In” model with students back on campus, 10th graders will NOT be allowed to park at the high school.
Student Accident Insurance - Please use this link here to access the application forms.
Lunch/Breakfast Update - Starting Monday, September 14th, muffins and breakfast sandwiches will be available before school from 7:40 to 7:55 am. These will be available “Ala Carte” (students do not need to place an order if getting breakfast prior to the start of classes). A reminder that every student is allowed one free breakfast and one free lunch each day. If a student places two lunch orders using the online order form, students will be charged $3.25 for the second lunch. The online order form must be accessed with a student’s @yarmouthschools.org email account.
Mental Health Update - Please take a few minutes to watch this short video regarding how to access mental health services at Yarmouth High School. We want to support all students, and their families, to take care of their mental health during these stressful times. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to our school social workers
Jenny Zorn (jenny_zorn@yarmouthschools.org) or
Shenaugh Tripp (shenaugh_tripp@yarmouthschools.org).
YHS Athletics - This Thursday, the State CDC and MPA approved a plan for the start of fall sports on Monday, September 14th. Athletic Director David Creech will be updating the Yarmouth Athletics Website link here with more specific information this weekend. For anyone interested in fall athletics, there will be team meetings with coaches this Monday evening. Again, information will be shared through the athletic department ASAP regarding specific times and locations for these meetings.
Clubs & Activities - We will also launch our clubs and activities during the month of September. Club advisors will be sharing more information with students as early as next week regarding meeting times and locations.
Next Week’s Schedule - A reminder that next week, with a full week of classes, Wednesday will be a remote learning day for all students with online classes from 11 to 2:45. Students with the last name A-L will attend onsite classes on Monday and Thursday; students with the last name M-Z will attend onsite classes on Tuesday and Friday.
As an administrative team, we would like to thank you for your patience and understanding during the first week of school. You have faced a massive amount of new information, often sent on a daily basis. Our hope is that you have been kept informed of the many changes in education, yet not been completely overwhelmed. We are exceptionally proud of our students and staff this week for keeping education and learning a priority while also working to keep us all safe. Our students had a chance to meet their teachers this week; we’d like to end this note by offering you the same opportunity. Please access this link, Why We Teach, to learn more about the dedicated staff of YHS.
Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend
Eric Klein, Amy Bongard, & David Creech - YHS Administrative Team
