Dear YHS Families,
Tomorrow marks teacher’s appreciation day, something that takes new meaning these days. We would like to recognize not only the educators of Yarmouth Schools, but also those you at home who are supporting your student’s learning. As an administrative team, we consider ourselves exceptionally fortunate to work with such a dedicated group of educators who continue to go above and beyond to support our students, and we would also like to take this moment to thank you as parents and guardians. Please consider sending your student’s teacher, counselor, or advisor a note of thanks.
The final stretch of the school year is upon us, and you may have questions regarding the end of year. This parent letter will serve as the first in a series of upcoming messages designed to explain how we will successfully finish the school year.
4th Quarter Grading: Essential Assignments & Progress Reports - As we continue with distance learning for the remainder of the school year, your student will need to successfully complete all Essential Assignments for each course to earn fourth quarter credit. More information and explanation can be found at this link, including how teachers are using PowerSchool in the credit/no credit system.
Additionally, we will hold two progress reports this quarter to further support your student’s learning. At the end of this week, your student’s teachers will update assignments, and advisors will reach out to you with a summary of concerns as part of the first progress report. We will hold another progress report at the end of the month to support students and help them stay on track with distance learning. Please feel free to reach out to your student’s teachers with additional questions.
Picking Up Medications - We ask that parents pick up any leftover medications by the end of the month. Our school nurse, Stacey Hang, will be at school on Tuesdays, and can help coordinate a “curbside” pick-up at the West Elm entrance of the school. She can be reached at stacey_hang@yarmouthschools.org.
Picking up Athletic Equipment - If you need to pick up any athletic equipment from the school, we ask that you contact our Athletic Director David Creech to schedule a date and time. He can be reached at david_creech@yarmouthschools.org.
Picking up Student Belongings - Please reach out to Jenn Lainey (jenn_lainey@yarmouthschools.org) in the main office if your student has left any belongings or materials in school or in lockers. We will collect these items and schedule a time for a “curbside” pick up from the West Elm entrance of the school.
May Celebrations: The 2020 Boyd Award - On Friday, May 22nd, as part of our recognition of Memorial Day, we would like to invite you to “attend” this year’s virtual ceremony that will begin at 11am. Prior to the ceremony, we will share a link that enables guests to watch this event from their homes.
In an upcoming letter, we will preview the following June events once details are finalized.
- Last day of classes
- Dropping off Books & Materials
- Laptops
- Yearbook Hand-Out
- “Virtual” Step-Up date for next year’s classes
We wish you well, and hope that you and your families are finding time to relax amidst the many challenges surrounding us. On that note, please join Casco Bay CAN for a virtual community presentation on Wednesday, May 13th from 6:30 to 8 pm. National speaker Dr. John Duffy will share insights from his new book, Parenting the New Teen in the Age of Anxiety. His presentation will provide strategies for raising happy, healthy teens with reduced stress and anxiety, and fostering positive connections to support your teen.
