Playmakers will be presenting a Spring Play in late May! Playmakers will be presenting a Spring Play in late May! This will be a production with a small cast (about 8 actors). We are trying to get an idea of how many people want to try out. If you a interested in auditioning for the Spring Play, please come to Room 409 to get an Audition Form. You must complete the form and turn it in to Mrs. Puelle before auditions. All forms are due next Tuesday, March 29 by the end of the day.
Athletic eligibility update Hello YHS Students, Please be reminded that quarter 3 ends on Friday April 8th and the eligibility report is due out the following Thursday, April 14th. If students are ineligible at this point they may not regain eligibility until Tuesday, May 17th. Eligibility is based on quarter 3 grades, cornerstones do not impact eligibility. This eligibility check point impacts any students participating on Spring sports in addition to all other extra-curricular activities. Please let me know if you have any questions. The actual eligibility policy for your reference in the text below: Eligibility Any student at Yarmouth High School is eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics if he/she meets the eligibility requirements as established by the MPA and Yarmouth High School. 1. Be enrolled in at least five full courses; and 2. Pass all courses in which he/she is enrolled during the quarter. An incomplete grade will be considered as a failure until it is made up and a grade is given. It should be noted that a student failing one course or receiving one incomplete grade may not participate in games/performances, but is still expected to practice and abide by existing team and code rules and regulations. Students failing two courses or having two incompletes, or any combination which equals two or more cannot participate in games/performances or practices. Ineligibility begins the day report cards are distributed to students. Eligibility will be reinstated on the date published for the distribution of mid-term reports. GO CLIPPERS!
Be The Change - Give a compliment week Hi YHS!! As you are enjoying the snow day, take a minute to send some compliments! Just a reminder: Give a Compliment Week is an opportunity for all YHS students and faculty members to compliment one another anonymously. After you write your appropriate, heart-felt compliment, it will be sent to the intended recipient within twenty-four hours. Last year, nearly 1,400 compliments were sent (and received)! Community Service Opportunity An Easy/Fun Opportunity to Earn Credits For Community Service WHEN? Saturday morning, April 9, 2016, 9:15 to 11:15 WHERE? First Parish Church, 116 Main Street, Yarmouth WHAT? Packaging vacuum-sealed meals for hungry children in northern rural Maine. Sitting or standing at an assembly line and pouring, for example, a cup of macaroni or soy into a plastic bag with 44 other people: men, women, adults, and students. WHY? One out of four children in Maine worry about not having enough food to eat each day. Northern rural towns in Maine have few, if any, food pantries; transportation and spoilage create huge problems. July and August are critical months, because hungry children in northern rural Maine have no breakfast or lunch available at school. Usually it takes until age 25 for one’s brain to develop fully. With so many hungry children, what does this say about their brain development? What about the quality of Maine’s high school graduates? For only 25 cents, Kids Care Food Program can provide supplies for a nourishing meal. The meals are vacuum sealed; therefore, the shelf life for the meals is two years. There are three options for Kids Care meals: a vegetable/rice casserole, a bean/rice meal, and a macaroni and cheese dinner. All meals are fortified with protein, vitamins, and minerals. Actually, 45 people can package 10,000 vacuum-sealed meals in two hours. Later, the Good Shepherd Food Bank will transport the packaged meals to its Brewer warehouse for distribution in northern rural Maine, specifically in July and August, when the children there have the least amount of food to eat.
