Athletic reminders from Ms. Robbins Hello YHS Students, I wanted to remind you all of a few items regarding extra curricular participation. 1. In order to be eligible to play in games or participate in practices you must be in school by 9:00 a.m. On Wednesdays late start 9:00 is still 9:00. 2. The MPA has a bona fide team rule which means you cannot miss a YHS sports practice or game for a travel team or tournament with out penalty. Each student-athlete may miss one according to the policy. MPA Explanation: A member of a school team is a student athlete who is regularly present for and actively participates in team practices and competitions. Bona fide members of a school team are prevented from missing high school practice or competition to compete or practice elsewhere. The form you must fill out is attached. 3. Friday January 27th is the end of Quarter 2 and the first Semester. Eligibility will come into affect on February 2nd. Students must be passing all five courses in order to be eligible for extra curricular activities. Please feel free to check in with me if you have any questions. GO CLIPPERS! -- Susan L. Robbins, CMAA Athletic Director

Thank you in advance for your help. -- Maryanne Strand Program Administrator Yarmouth Community Services
Sign up for the American Math Contest Hey YHS Students: Are you good at Math? Do you like a challenge? Do you want a chance to win awards for your skills? Every year we offer a chance for students to participate in the American Math Contests. These contests give students a chance to challenge themselves and see how they stack up against math students from around the country. Top scorers have a chance to win awards and/or complete in higher level competitions. There are separate contests for students in grade 10 or lower and for students in grade 11 or higher. This year, the AMC will take place on Tuesday, February 7th during advisor and period Blue 2. Anyone signing up and taking part will be excused from that one class, but will obviously have to make up any work missed. If you would like to take part, please sign up using the AMC sign-up form. If you have any questions about this competition, feel free to contact me directly or you can ask your math teacher. J. Hutchinson
Auditions for Advanced Vocal Ensemble & Chamber Choir Dear Students, If you are a sophomore or junior and have taken a year of Chorus (Concert Choir) at YHS or had a similar experience at another high school, then read on... The week of Feb. 13 we will be having auditions for Advanced Vocal Ensemble and Chamber Choir. The prerequisite for either class is one full year in YHS Chorus or a similar experience at another high school. There is one audition for advancing. Placement in one of the choirs is based on your skills. Sometimes students need a second year of experience in Chorus and then audition again after that year. The audition has several parts and tests your voice, ear, and reading ability. There is a special format and some special music you will need. The first step is to go to my home page and click on either Chamber Choir or Advanced Vocal Ensemble. The direct link can be found on this announcement under Student News. Read the audition information and visit the site with the tracks and music for "Fire, Fire." After looking at the information, contact me and we can decide which voice part you should learn for "Fire, Fire" and you can tell me what your choice song will be. Then we'll look at scheduling an audition the week of Feb. 13. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope some of you consider this opportunity to return to vocal music at YHS! Mr. Dustin -- Rick Dustin Choral Music Director, Yarmouth High School

Take Back the Tap Free Lunch Friday! & FREE CHICKIN' TENDAS On next Friday, February 3rd, the YHS Cafe is hosting a free lunch to raise awareness for the Take Back the Tap campaign. In order to keep up the profits lost from selling water bottles, we must buy more lunches and snacks from the cafeteria. Water bottles will not be sold that day, and snacks and beverages (excluding milk) will be sold for their respective fees. The FREE LUNCH options consist of the regular sandwich and salad bar accompanied by a pasta bar and the kitchen's new CHICKIN' TENDAS recipe. Remember, Take Back the Tap will only be successful with heavy student participation in buying lunch.

Tim White Night - Friday, February 3rd Tim White Night Please join us on Friday, February 3rd, 2017, for the annual fundraiser for the Tim White Memorial Scholarship. The ceremony will occur just prior to the Falmouth v Yarmouth Basketball game at 7:00 pm at Yarmouth High School. Tim was a generous and dedicated community leader who, as President of the Yarmouth Basketball Boosters, was the driving force in the planning and construction of the Yarmouth High School outdoor basketball courts. The lighted courts are used by all ages and by folks from many surrounding communities. Tim lost his battle with ALS in December of 2010. Tim White Night is our way of honoring Tim and raising money for a scholarship that is awarded to one graduating senior from the girls and boys basketball teams who best exemplifies Tim’s leadership off and on the court.

See Mrs. Pietropaoli if you need new paperwork; Extra-Curricular Eligibility (sports and clubs): Students are eligible if they are passing all courses in which they were enrolled during the second quarter. An incomplete grade is considered a failing grade until it is made up and a grade is given. See the YHS Handbook section on eligibility for more details.
