Dear YHS Families,

During the first few weeks we greatly appreciate your support as we work together to provide our staff and students with meaningful and safe learning experiences using a Hybrid schedule.   It is also refreshing to share some updates regarding “regular” school events such as pictures and Open House.

School Pictures - Geskus Studio will be taking school pictures this Friday, September 25th and Monday, September 28th.   Please use this link to order pictures.  Photographers will be available on both of these days from 2 to 3 pm for remote students to have their pictures taken.

Open House Update - Instead of a traditional one-night Open House, this year your child’s teachers will be sharing videos/presentations with you the week of September 28th.  Each teacher will provide an overview of expectations and other important information to support your child’s learning at Yarmouth High School.   Teacher websites can be found at this site, which provides parents with a great deal of information about your student’s classes.

Upcoming Presentation on Student Stress & Anxiety - Sponsored by Casco Bay CAN, Dr. John Duffy will be offering a virtual community presentation on Thursday, September 24th from 6:30-8 pm.  Please see this link for more information.  Dr. Duffy will share insights from his new book, Parenting the New Teen in the Age of Anxiety, in addition to highlighting how parents can address stress / anxiety in teens during COVID 19. Join us to learn about raising happy, health teens with reduced stress and anxiety and fostering positive connections to support your teen.  Meeting link information:

YEF Update - The Yarmouth Education Foundation, a nonprofit organization made up of parent and community volunteers, funds innovative projects that fall outside the school budget, impacting students and staff K-12.  YEF has given back more than $400,000 in recent years, and the YEF Board of Directors is proud to share that we have awarded more than $30,000 in emergency Covid grants to our schools in September. This includes outdoor classroom space for our entire school community. Large tents and awnings have been placed outside all school buildings. These outdoor spaces have allowed for mask breaks, lunch breaks, and an innovative classroom setting for students K-12.   YEF will have more grant announcements to come throughout the year! You can donate and/or learn more about YEF at our website (YarmouthEducationFoundation.org).  Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter as well.  Thank you for your support.

REMINDER: Communication when Students are at Home - There may be times this year when your child may not feel well enough to attend on-site classes.   If your child is scheduled to attend on-campus classes at YHS and decides to stay home due to symptoms or illness, we ask that you please call or email the main office...even if they are still connecting to their classes online.

Finally, we will hold our fall Financial Aid Night next Tuesday, September 29th at 6:30 pm.  Please join Stephanie Haines, Associate Director of Student Aid at Bowdoin College, for a virtual presentation regarding resources to help students and parents with the costs of college.  We will share a Zoom Link to the presentation in a separate email.

Respectfully,

Eric Klein, Amy Bongard, & David Creech – YHS Administrative Team
