Dear Parents and Guardians-

We wish you and your children a sun-filled spring break, filled with the activities you enjoy!

Thank you for taking the time to review the following information:

Drop Off/Pick Up Safety Reminder: We need to share a second reminder about the importance of our morning and afternoon drop off/pick up process. We appreciate your help ensuring that our students, staff and community members are able to get to and from school safely. To move efficiently and safely through the drop off line, please pull up to the curb to drop off your child, then proceed to the stop sign before leaving the HMS lot. This will allow the flow of traffic to move forward smoothly around the loop. Please avoid sitting in your parked car in the drop off line for any reason, as this impedes the process, and has others waiting in line behind you. Passing cars on the left is an unsafe practice for our students and other drivers.

How To Help In Maine-We are pleased to share this message from YHS students Zoe Siegel and Parker Harnett: We have developed a website called How to Help in Maine. Our goal is to raise awareness of all the places students of any age can donate their time, goods, and money to organizations and people who need them most. Even though issues like food insecurity and homelessness might seem daunting, we want to empower students to help solve our community problems little by little. Most importantly, students can sign up for monthly emails about news, updates, and opportunities. A big goal we have is to get students to signup for a monthly email under the "Get in Touch" tab about new volunteer opportunities and events. If any students have experiences with volunteering, they can also submit a story on the "Who are You" questionnaire under the "Get in Touch" tab. We want to raise awareness of the website and the organizations as much as possible. The website could be especially helpful to eighth graders who can start earning community service hours this summer!

Science MEAs: The MEA science assessment for students in grades 5 and 8 will take place the week after break. Our 8th grade students will participate in three, 45 minute sessions of this assessment on April 24 and April 25. Fifth grade students will take this assessment on April 24 and April 26. They will participate in three 40 minutes sessions of this assessment. As always, it’s important that our students are well rested and well-fueled for these assessments. We are confident that the quality instruction delivered by our staff, along with your support, will assist our students toward the goal of meeting the expectations Maine has established for their learning.
